5 Reasons You’ll Give a Thumbs Up For a Snapshot of Your Child’s Pearly Whites

Do you have concerns about your child receiving a pediatric digital X-ray? Perhaps you’ve heard that radiation can be a dangerous byproduct of dental digital X-rays. Or, maybe you simply wonder if dental X-rays are really necessary. If you have considered these issues or others, you’re not alone.

At Kangaroo Smiles, we strictly abide by the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Our priority as pediatric dentistry is keeping your child safe while providing the best preventative pediatric dental care possible.

Are There Dangers Associated With a Pediatric Digital X-Ray?

Taking your child to the dentist, whether for the first time or the fifteenth can be intimidating. That’s why, at Kangaroo Smiles, we take every precaution to ensure your child’s safety during all of our dental examinations and procedures – and digital X-rays are no exception.

We always encourage you to ask any questions about our services, and we make it a point to explain in terms your child understands so that everyone is informed about the upcoming procedure.

To keep your child safe we place lead body aprons over your child’s body to protect from radiation during every digital x-ray. According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the minimal risk of radiation occurring from a digital X-ray far outweighs undetected dental problems or those that have been unattended.

In our office, Dr. Mona only conducts a pediatric digital X-ray when necessary. The AAPD generally recommends that digital X-ray examinations for children take place once every six months. This may vary depending on the individual child and his/her dental condition and/or needs.

5 Reasons For a Snapshot of Your Child’s Pearly Whites

Not all dental issues can be identified through a visual dental examination. That’s why it’s particularly important for children to receive routine digital X-Rays. The benefits in doing so far surpass the risks – and we can give you 5 great reasons! Here are a few major advantages of pediatric digital X-Rays:

  1. Images can detect cavities unseen by the human eye
  2. X-Ray images will reflect signs of bone disease and allow a dentist to evaluate injuries
  3. Digital images can be used to examine and guide growth during the earliest and most crucial stages of development
  4. Risk of tooth decay can be identified enabling preemptive dental measures to be applied
  5. Digital panoramic x-rays can be utilized to help plan potential orthodontic treatments

The Ultimate Benefit

In addition to aiding dentists, like Dr. Mona, in providing the best preventative pediatric dental care, digital X-rays can give you peace of mind in knowing that your child’s dental needs are being thoroughly evaluated and treated when necessary.
